One of the BEST things about my experience in the blogging world has been the amazing women I have met in my community. We all love supporting local businesses and so when I was asked to participate in a “social distancing” photoshoot to help promote important issues surrounding the COVID-19, I didn’t hesitate in saying, “Yes!” Don’t worry, we all adhered to the 6 ft rule during the shoot and even had a little fun in the process. 🙂
In chatting with these ladies, it was clear we were all struggling differently at home with how to navigate in self-isolation. These women are all badass boss babes and just like you, we have had new hurdles to overcome in the last few weeks!
3 Things I’ve Learned
- I Don’t Like Working From Home – I am totally surprised by this and I am trying to figure out exactly why I am not adjusting very well. I have read all the same tips and tricks that I’m sure you have, but I just can’t get into a good routine. (I mean, who gets up just as early if you have no commute and who is putting on workwear when yoga pants are allowed in the new “office”?!) All I can figure out is that I don’t have a “normal” work flow in that large volumes of tasks get assigned to me daily to “finish” or complete. I know I don’t talk in detail about my career, but essentially I am an attorney focused on litigation and right now the court systems are sort of on hold and big trials I had set in March and likely April are not moving forward. So, all the tasks that would come along with getting those goals met are no longer a pressing issue. The rest of my job is sort of unpredictable and so no two days are the same. I know I can’t possibly be the only person with this type of career workflow, so I feel a little silly that I am sort of lost. My goal for the foreseeable future is just figuring out how to prioritize what I know is on the horizon so when things get back to normal I am not drowning!
- I Enjoy Walking – I had started walking more after we got Zeus and before COVID-19 I found myself skipping walks sometimes and just letting my husband do it. Ever since we have been working from home and practicing social distancing, I have looked forward to walks and just being outside in general. I find myself walking further and more times per day than ever before. It is something about all the forced screen time cooped up inside my home that has me stir crazy! Oh, and I ordered a new pair of blue light blocking glasses too because I lost my old ones and my eyes have been killing me!
- People are Kind – You may laugh at this one and wonder how I am just learning this! Let me explain…generally I have always known that people are kind. But, through my profession I see a lot of the bad in society and honestly I probably have a pretty pessimistic worldview most of the time. The acts of kindness that I have witnessed both from afar (all the wonderful things we see on the internet) and in my own community have convinced me that generally speaking people are kind. They want to help. They want to set a good example. They want what is BEST for their families, neighbors and communities.
When we got together for this shoot, we knew that our message wasn’t new or novel…but just a fun way to send out a little reminder of things we can all do to help. If you aren’t on the front lines as a healthcare worker, first responder, or essential worker helping stock our shelves and make important deliveries, then I know it can feel like you aren’t doing your part. That is how I have felt. Sitting at home…enjoying extra time with my husband and new puppy…what am I doing to help flatten the curve? I’m staying home, disinfecting everything, shopping local, getting take-out from my favorite restaurants and trying to be kind whenever I can. (p.s. Don’t ask Kenny’s opinion on that last one! LOL)
Don’t forget to support local photographers and event vendors when you can as well. They are all suffering from a cancellation of weddings and events. Book a family photoshoot for this summer and pay now, buy fresh flowers from the local florist for your new “home office” or place an order for to-go dessert from your favorite bakery. They will appreciate it so much!
Angelica with Pompy Portraits Photography did an amazing job with this photoshoot, so if you are in the North Florida area please check her out for all of your photography needs!
